“But if the air we breathe is the never-failing historian of the sentiments we have uttered, earth, air, and ocean, are the eternal witnesses of the acts we have done. The same principle of the equality of action and reaction applies to them : whatever movement is communicated to any of their particles, is transmitted to all around it” - Chap IX, The Ninth Bridgewater Treatise, Charles Babbage

A moment in time

A natural gemstone, by the nature of how it comes into existence, is a token of time. It holds a record of the natural environment in which it was created. For the yellow sapphire below to come into existence, the right elements have to be present in the right quantities and the ambient vibrations need to be just right in order that the sapphire doesn't become a ruby or a blue sapphire or even nothing at all!. A gemstone is evidence and it is a record in and of itself of the vibrations that were occurring in a certain place at a specific point in time whether due to coincidence, natural order, divine intervention or a combination of all three.

Raman Scattering

In an earlier blog post I discussed Raman scattering in the context of questioning the animacy of gemstones. To recap, Raman scattering is the inelastic scattering of light as a result of interaction with the atomic vibrations within a crystalline material. A crystal will either increase or decrease electromagnetic energy that it receives. Phonon energy in a crystal which occurs as a result of its structure and chemical composition interacts with electromagnetic energy, absorbing it, polarising it, emitting it and also dissipating it throughout the crystal structure. Does this energetic interaction leave a lasting mark on the crystal? Is this mark detectable? In some instances there is a lasting visible effect, for example, in the case of amethysts whose purple colour fades when it interacts with the UV light energy from the Sun. But what about electromagnetic energy emitted from human beings? What detectable impression might that leave on a crystalline structure?

There is a theory called 'Stone Tape Theory' or 'Place Memory' which has been rubbished by many, but so what? Some of the best theories have been. It is the idea that emotional energy is recorded in the landscape or architecture of certain places. These emotional impressions give rise to hauntings and repeated apparitions of spirits/ghostly goings on. In this blog post I will attempt to bring together an anecdote on stones with good energy and a phenomenal emergent scientific discovery about water.

An anecdote from recent times – prayer imbued quartz

There is a podcast series called "The Telepathy Tapes" which explores the science of consciousness, communication and connection focusing on non-speaking individuals. It features non-verbal autistic people who appear to express profound telepathic capabilities to varying degrees. The listener hears about children reading the minds of their parents, communicating with other non-speakers whom they have never physically met at a non-physical place called 'The Hill'. The podcast presents a new perspective through which to understand the conscious capacity of the human being, putting into question the entire idea of consciousness as we think we know it. In relation to the topic at hand, there is a section in Episode 3 where a mother named Katie explains that she received three stones from a friend who had "prayed over them" and wanted to give them to the mother to give to her non-verbal son named Houston. When the mother arrived home, the son already knew that his mother had these 'stones' and asked for them. Once he had them he went to his room and put his head very close to the stones; when his mother asked him what he was doing, he replied - "when you are autistic, you are a magnet for all energy, good and bad, these stones have good energy". Whilst sitting with a large quartz crystal, Houston also explained this to the interviewer when asked why he loved stones: "all the living things I see and hear, that includes stones, plants, animals, trees, like all of it."

It seems that the prayers which had permeated the three stones were recorded in some way or other and detected by this individual who had already expressed other telepathic capabilities. Could he hear the words of the prayers? Is it just a feeling? Is it a repeating vibration or set of vibrations at frequencies which correspond to the prayer? Or the intention of the prayer? Does 'good energy' reside within a certain frequency range?

If you are anything like me, this anecdote will act as sufficient evidence of stone tape theory claims and beyond however if you are not as eager to believe as me, perhaps your mind has been opened a little. In the next section, I look at the potential gemmological implications of findings that liquid crystalline water can record information.

Structured Water

As it turns out, there is a lot more to water than commonly understood, especially from an energetic perspective. Typically, water is H2O, two hydrogen atoms covalently bonded to one oxygen atom and the overall structure is still under investigation. However under certain conditions the hydrogen and oxygen atoms in water have the ability to arrange themselves into hexagonal structures which have differing energetic properties to unstructured water also known as 'bulk water'. These hexagonal (and sometimes other shaped) structures consist of hydronium ions H3O+ and have been observed to produce coherent electromagnetic fields vibrating at 7.85Hz, in the range of Schumann resonances. This was determined by Mohri et al. [1] who also found that this frequency of vibration increases the water structure.

The electromagnetic fields produced by the structured water interact with ambient electromagnetic energy. This is similar to when the molecules within solid crystals vibrate producing phonons which either decrease or increase light energy when it is emitted following absorption (see Raman Scattering above). In the case of structured water, scientists have performed experiments which demonstrate that this type of water can be used to store the electromagnetic signature of unique biological information. In an experiment performed by Noble prize winner Luc Montagnier [2], a solution of diluted DNA in structured water was exposed to an electromagnetic field vibrating at 7Hz which resulted in an emission of electromagnetic energy with a unique signature. Structured water consists of hydronium which vibrates at 7.85Hz as stated above; introducing ambient vibrations at the same frequency leads to resonance and increasingly structured water.

When a separate test tube of distilled structured water was placed next to the original one with the diluted bacterial DNA and exposed to the same electromagnetic frequency in an isolated environment, the new test tube of water began to emit a signature identical to the original. When the components of DNA were placed into the new test tube, DNA formed which was 98% similar to the original bacterial DNA. This means that water that consists of a crystalline molecular structure can carry information and relay that information through its endogenous electromagnetic field. What frequencies do solid crystalline materials vibrate at? Is there a way to introduce an electromagnetic field of resonant frequency to the molecular structure of a particular crystal that would lead to the storage of information? Is it as simple as praying or meditating over them?

Schumann frequencies are in the atmosphere; the current theory is that these vibrations are caused by lightning striking between the surface of the earth and the ionosphere. The spectral range lies within the same range as a set of brain waves known as theta waves. Can the electromagnetic signature associated with a thought be stored in a stone? To compare it to Luc Montagnier's experiment described above, the human brain would be the original test tube of structured water with a diluted thought instead of diluted DNA. The crystal or stone would be the new test tube filled with a vibrating crystalline molecular structure instead of the liquid crystalline water and the 7Hz is already in the atmosphere resonating with the electromagnetic field produced by the brain.
